Quantum of Solace: I am for sure picking this up on Blu-Ray! I think I may just go right now and get it.....

Movie Review: Milk

Using flashbacks from a statement recorded late in life and archival footage for atmosphere, this film traces Harvey Milk's career from his 40th birthday to his death. He leaves the closet and New York, opens a camera shop that becomes the salon for San Francisco's growing gay community, and organizes gays' purchasing power to build political alliances. He runs for office with lover Scott Smith as his campaign manager. Victory finally comes on the same day Dan White wins in the city's conservative district. The rest of the film sketches Milk's relationship with White and the 1978 fight against a statewide initiative to bar gays and their supporters from public school jobs

This is the movie I feel should have won the Best Picture. Everything about this movie was perfect I mean 10/10 perfect. From acting to the screenplay to the music to the cinematography, I mean everything was right on! I am so thankfull that Sean Penn won the award for Best Actor (unlike that stupid Penelope Cruz BS award). Let me also just say this is one of the few movies in awhile I couldnt NOT leave it.... I mean I dont think I went to the bathroom, got a glass of water or even took my eyes off the screen, it was that good! I could rant on and on or I can do what I think would be best and just tell you to go see it! HIGHY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Bolt: I cant help but love these animated movies! But I will probably rent this one......

Movie Review: Let the Right One In

Oskar, a bullied 12-year old, dreams of revenge. He falls in love with Eli, a peculiar girl. She can't stand the sun or food and to come into a room she needs to be invited. Eli gives Oskar the strength to hit back, but when he realizes that Eli needs to drink other people's blood to live he's faced with a choice. How much can love forgive?

This is one of those movies that when it was over I really wanted to watch it again. Not to say that in a good or bad way, but just because its a thinking persons movie. First off this is a "first-time" love story between two 12 year olds that just so happens one is a vampire. The thing I wanna make sure people realize is this is a gory and gruesome movie (a hard R rating), but then again its a vampire movie. So dont let the love story keep away the fact that its a horror movie. The 2 main actors in this movie have GREAT chemistry amd they both did amazing jobs. The boy who played Oskcar was the perfect outsider who wanted a friend or love so bad that her being a blood drinker would bother him. The only bad part about this movie is it feels like a 4 hour movie, the pace is slow, theres not a lot of dialoge in the beginning, and nothing really happens in the first hour or so. As the movie progresses everything in the movie also progresses untill the ending that was so perfect, for a not so perfect film. Even with its faults I feel this will be a cult classic in the years to come (and an already scheduled american remake in 2010). Recommended!

Movie Review: Changeling

Inspired by actual events that occurred in 1920s-era Los Angeles, Clint Eastwood's "Changeling" tells the story of a woman driven to confront a corrupted LAPD after her abducted son is retrieved and she begins to suspect that the boy returned to her is not the same boy she gave birth to.

I cannot tell you how happy I was that I FINALY got to watch a great movie. After 4 horrible movie I wish I could forget......this drops in my lap. Lets start by what was good about it. Angelina Jolie definitly stole the show, I was expecting her to be kinda full of herself like she is in other movies (Wanted). But she came out and did a preformance I believe should have won the oscar, and she did it with love for the role. You could tell that she wanted to do it right and by god she did! Clint Eastwood is a great director and I feel this was his masterpiece. The settings, the sets, colors, acting, shots etc. Were all perfectly done to make this amazing movie. This is definitley Highly Recommended!

Tuesday New Releases:

Milk: I am very excited to see this! I think this movie is gonna be great and I will let you guys know as soon as I watch it (Im finnishing Australia tonight)

Let the Right One In: Im definitly picking this up this weekend. This is a vampire movie unlike most vampire movies. This was considered for the foreign oscar and is already in development for a remake in 2010.

Role Models: One of the few movies I had seen in the theater and wanted to see it again right after. Its a raunchy style comedy with a lot of heart. Definatly a buy!

Rachel Getting Married: You know Im not TOO big of a fan of Anne Hathaway! But I did hear that this was a good movie because she was doing something diffrent. I may rent this if there is nothing to watch......

Transporter 3: The first was good, the second was more of the first, and now the third? I think I will skip this one!

Movie Review: Vicky Christina Barcelona

Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) go to Barcelona for the summer and things get complicated when they meet a charming, mysterious, and rich painter (Javier Bardem) and he makes a rather upfront proposition to both of them. All the while after a failed suicide attempt Juan (Javier Bardem)'s wife (Penelope Cruz) comes to live with him to complicate matters.

Im not gonna lie I really dont like Woody Allen movies! I do feel however that this is the most accesible movie of his, but that still doesnt change the fact that it was horrible. First the bad things: the narrator was horrible and really didnt add anything to the story (ok I get it she rub'd her foot against him! I didnt need to have that explained to me!!), the music in this movie was the most annoying song (yes pretty much the same song the whole movie) I have ever heard. Now the good thing about this movie was the acting was top notch! I really enjoy'd everyone!...............except.........Penelope Cruz!!! I though she was absolutley HORRIBLE in this movie and she won an Oscar for her preformance. Let me tell you how stupid the Academy awards are....... Pelelope Cruz gets an oscar for this movie........which she sucked in...... and was only in the movie 28 minutes of a hour and a half movie...... make sense? Not recommended!!

Is there any movie coming out thats good!!! This is the 4th movie I watch I wouldnt recommend!!

Tuesday New Releases:

Australia: I was thinking about buying this on Blu-Ray for maybe a date night this weekend but I heard that it was visually stunning but very boring (its 3 hrs long). I also heard that Nicole Kidman in a interview said she was so dissapointed in the movie she didnt even want her name attached to it........ so I think this may be a rent.

Watchmen: Complete Motion Comic: This is for more of the "Die-hard" fans of the comic. Its a 5 hour animated comic strip movie of the Watchmen, now I dont mean its like a cartoon but more of a slide to slide (with little to no animation) naration of the comic. I think I would rather just read it then this!

And thats it! Another dull week in movies unless your really ballsy and wanna rent AND watch Beverly Hills Chihuahua!!

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Tuesday New Releases:

Sex Drive: This one looked a little funny. More on the lines of an "American Pie" movie. Possibly a rent.

The Haunting of Molly Hadrin: This looked very bad and got horrible reviews. I will probably skip that one.

Yep thats it!!!

Movie Review: Quarantine

Television reporter Angela Vidal and her cameraman are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. They soon learn that a woman living in the building has been infected by something unknown. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building.

This movie was one that I was most excited for! I love the "Blairwitch", "Cloverfield" type of filming. It makes you feel like your more apart of the movie! But this was just complete trash!!! First off they dont explain ANYTHING about the story, they dont go into ANY detail on the characters, and the acting was out of a 1980's cheesy horror movie. I would have turned it off if it was just me watching it but because I had people watching it with I figured let them watch the rest if they want. The only thing good about it was the camera style but it looked like they threw this together in a matter of days. Not recommended!

Movie Review: Still Waiting....

The direct to dvd sequel to WAITING. Featuring most of the original Shenanagans cast (except Ryan Reynolds and Anna Farris) going head to head with another company the Ta-Tas. They only have one day to come up with nine thousand dollars or the restaruant is gonna close down.

I was very excited when I saw this coming out. I didnt even know they made this! But I have to say I was very dissapointed. It may be that all the charm and fun of the first one left with Ryan Reynolds and Anna Farris or maybe that they were trying TOO hard to top the crazy antics in the first one, but about halfway through I wanted to forget I even saw this (its taken me almost a week even to review this!). Im just gonna flat out say NOT RECOMMENDED!

Tuesday New Releases

Body of Lies: This movie looks so-so, I will probably rent just because I like Ridley Scott.

Quarantine: I already went down and got this because I heard it was scary as hell. I will post a review for it in the next couple of days but if your looking for a scary movie to watch tonight get this!

Changeling: I have loved EVERY Clint Eastwood movie (as a director) . But this movie just does not interest me at all. Maybe if Im bored and theres nothing on t.v. I will rent it On Demand.

High School Musical 3: If you into this stuff great. But if your like me...... you dont want this!

Movie Review: Nights in Rodanthe

Adrienne Willis, a woman with her life in chaos, retreats to the tiny coastal town of Rodanthe, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, to tend to a friend's inn for the weekend. Here she hopes to find the tranquility she so desperately needs to rethink the conflicts surrounding her -- a wayward husband who has asked to come home, and a teen-aged daughter who resents her every decision. Almost as soon as Adrienne gets to Rodanthe, a major storm is forecast and a guest named Dr. Paul Flanner arrive. The only guest at the inn, Flanner is not on a weekend escape but rather is there to face his own crisis of conscience. Now, with the storm closing in, the two turn to each other for comfort and, in one magical weekend, set in motion a life-changing romance that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.

Look I'll be honest with you. I dont mind a good chick movie from time to time. I mean us guys have to give in sometime and watch these things. But this movie was GOD AWFUL!! I mean both me and my girlfriend (I rented this for her for Valentines Day) and the end of this movie were so pissed we wasted an hour and forty minutes on this garbage. Look I liked the Notebook, I liked Message in a Bottle but THIS was just SO bad!! The acting was horrible, I mean it didnt even seem like they LIKE eachother and then during a hurricane they make love and boom they are soulmates? Yeah no joke its in the movie! Im cutting this short because Im just so disgusted that I dont even want to bring up anything else from this movie. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!

Movie Review: W.

Oliver Stone's biographical take on the life of George W. Bush, one of the most controversial, secretive, cynical, and ruthless president in USA history, chronicling from 1967 to his wild and carefree days in college, to his military service, to his governorship of Texas and oil businesses, leading to his 2000 candidacy for president, his first turbulent four years to his 2004 re-election campaign.

Josh Brolin deserves an Oscar for this movie. I mean it was so well done I had to remind myself that it was in fact an actor not Bush himself. I am a huge Oliver Stone fan! and this has to be one of his best movies. For people who HATE Bush...... Your gonna laugh and love this movie. For people who LOVED Bush...... You too will laugh and love this movie. Oliver Stone did a movie where both sides can come together and watch this amazing story about how an idiot made his way into the White House. It does seem to lag in the middle of the movie but the beginning and the ending are flawless. This movie is very recommended!

Tuesday New Releases

W. : This is a for sure pick up. I REALLY wanted to see this in the movie theatre but decided to wait because why pay 10 bucks when you can wait and watch it at home. Im a big Josh Brolin fan and I heard he was great in this. Again a for sure pick up.

Miracle at St. Anna: I have never been much of a Spike Lee fan (except Inside Man), but I was curious to see how he would do a war movie. Just as I thought it got HORRIBLE reviews and people said that it was one of his worst movies he has done. I think I may skip this and watch it years later on Starz.

Nights in Rodanthe: Another tear jerker from the guy who wrote The Notebook...... Lets just hope my girlfriend doesnt hear about this.....

Blindness: This movie also looked very good but got pretty bad reviews. Now Im a huge fan of director Fernando Meirelles (City of God) and I do like Julianne Moore, so I think I will rent this one also.

Movie Review: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Nick, the only straight band member of "The Jerk Offs" has recently been dumped by his hot girlfriend, Tris. Nick believes that he can win her back by sending her special songs on CDs that he has mixed just for her. Nick has sent her about 10 CDs, but Tris only throws them in the trash. However, Tris' classmate, Norah, has retrieved most of them, and she loves them. Norah has never met Nick, but the music he loves touches her heart. Norah then (without knowing) asks Nick to be her boyfriend for the night, which then turns out to be the best night of thier lives.

Well there were things I liked about this movie and things I really hated. The things I liked were the performance of Kat Dennings (Chalie Bartlett, 40 Year Old Virgin) and the musical score. The things I really hated: I love Michael Cere, I really do just watch his webisodes (Clarkandmichael.com), or watch Superbad. Although I am getting sick of the same damn character! I mean its as though this kid tried to get laid last night (Superbad), then got a chick pregnant (Juno) and then decided to go cheat on her with a girl that loves the same music (Nick and Norahs) all in the same weekend! Now for the second thing I hated, I know this is supposed to be aimed at teenagers and is more of a date movie but I felt this movie was WAY to childish. Now trust me Im all for a good romantic comedy or date movie with your girlfriend, but this just feels like it was meant for tweens. So if your in the mood for a underage film that has a great score and half the actors do great? Then this is recommended to you, but if you looking for an adult film with some charm this is not recommended.

Movie Review: Zack and Miri Make A Porno

Zack and Miri are two lifelong platonic friends who make an adult film to pay the rent of their apartment. With their friend Delaney, the couple set out for auditionees for their porn film, but in the process of filming, they realize they feel more for each other than they had before.

I kid you not thats about all I can say about this movie that wont offend people. If you love raunchy, heartwarming, vulger, sweet comedies? Then this movie is right up your ally! Kevin Smith once again proves why hes still the top dog (with Apatow following) comedic genuis. But be warned!!! This is not a movie for everyone. If you DONT like Kevin Smith movies (especially Clerks II) or any of the Apatow movies (40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad) then steer clear of this movie. I dont care WHAT the box says this movie should have been rated NC-17 (not that thats a bad thing) if only for a part in the movie that contains a pornstar whos constipated having sex. All the amazing actors were spot on in this (including a great Justin Long and Brandon Routh). Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks shine in a movie that at first is over the top gross and disturbing, yet they make you love the chemistry they have for eachother. Buyer beware but this gets my highly recommended!

Tuesday New Releases:

Zack and Miri Make A Porno: I am a huge Kevin Smith fan (yes even Clerks II) so this is a for sure buy. I will have a review on it up on Thursday.

Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist: This looks so-so. I love Micheal Ciera but he has just been playing the same roles lately. I will probably rent this.

The Secret Life of Bees: This also looked very good and I know my girlfriend would wanna watch it. So I may get this for a date night.

Being There: If you dont know who Chance the Gardner is then you HAVE to see this amazing movie. Its the 30 year anniversary edition of one of Peter Sellers (the Pink Panther) best performances. He died 6 months after the movie came out.

Movie Review: The Rocker

The Rocker tells the story of a failed drummer who is given a second chance at fame. Robert "Fish" Fishman is the extremely dedicated and astoundingly passionate drummer for the eighties hair band Vesuvius, who is living the rock n' roll dream until he is unceremoniously kicked out of the band. Twenty years after his rock star fantasies are destroyed, just when Fish has finally given up all hope, he hears that his nephew's high school rock band A.D.D. is looking for a new drummer. They reluctantly make him the newest member of the band, giving him a chance to reclaim the rock God throne he's always thought he deserved, and taking the young band along for the ride of their lives.

I went into this movie with low expectations. I love Rainn Wilson, I loved the concept of the movie, but I heard it was not very good and even someone saying it was horrible. To tell you the truth maybe it was because of that low expectation that I actually enjoyed this movie! I thought Rainn Wilson did a great job of playing a has been rocker (including the spandez) and yet keeping his Dwight (from the office) persona seperate. I also loved Emma Stone (Superbad and The House Bunny) as the only girl bass player. All in all this was a fun movie that I really didnt expect, its nothing we havent seen before and Im not sure if I would buy this movie (unless it was a deal) but I still recommend it.

Movie Review: Lakeview Terrace

Chris Mattson and Lisa, a young interracial couple, have just moved into their California dream home when they become the target of their next-door neighbor, who disapproves of their interracial relationship. A stern, widowed-single father of two, LAPD officer Abel Turner is the watchdog of the neighborhood. His nightly foot patrols and overly watchful eyes bring comfort to some, but he becomes increasingly harassing to the newlyweds. The persistent intrusions into the lives of Chris and Lisa ultimately take a turn for the worse when the couple decides to fight back.

Boy am I glad I didnt pay money to see this in the theatre! This movie was EXTREMLY boring and stupid. I mean who takes revenge on a nice interacial couple because your wife was having an affair with a white guy?? The pacing on this movie made it feel like you had been watching it for 3 hours (the running time is around an hour and 40 mins.), and then when the climax comes instead of being suprised, your actually glad this thing was over. The only good thing I had to say was the casting of Patrick Wilson. That man deserves a better script and a better movie than this. I would not recommend this movie.

PREDATOR RE-BOOT?

Robert Rodriquez and his Troublemaker Studios will be producing a "Predator" reboot for 20th Century Fox. The outline released makes it sound like there will be more than one Predator (unlike just the one in the original) "In the reboot a team of commandoes face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters." No writer has been attached yet - and there is no script. No word on whether or not Rodriquez will direct, but it seems highly unlikely considering how many projects he has in development.

GOOD GOD PEOPLE!!!! Are you seriously OUT OF IDEAS?? Why reboot a franchise with only two movies? The first one is a classic and the second one was decent. They can take the Predator character almost ANYWHERE. I know because I used to read the Dark Horse comic books. Why reboot it if there are at least 100 diffrent ideas for a sequel? Plus I love Robert and his films but can you imagine a Predator movie being produced by the director of Spy Kids?

A PREQUEL TO "THE THING"????

Variety has confirmed a Bloody-Disgusting scoop that said commercials director Matthijs van Heijningen will direct a prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 horror-thriller "The Thing".

The studio has set "Battlestar Galactica" executive producer Ron Moore to write the script. The new project borrows heavily from the John W. Campbell Jr. short story "Who Goes There," the basis of the Carpenter film and 1951 Howard Hawks original "The Thing From Another World".

It is set in a Norwegian camp and chronicles how the alien was first discovered and overcame the inhabitants of that camp. Strike Entertainment's Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing. David Foster will be executive producer

Ok first off my favorite horror movie is "The Thing". When I first heard they were planning a remake (of a remake?), I was really worried!! So now when I heard they are planning a prequel Im actually excited for it. Because even if its bad I dont have to watch it and it wont effect the greatness of the original. Its very possible that they CAN do a great job on this movie also if they just do it right (for once)!

Movie Review: Henry Poole is Here

In a working class neighborhood in Los Angeles, a world weary Henry Poole buys a house, caring little about its lack of amenities. He drinks and eats pizza. Recent stucco work has left a brown stain in a patio wall, and, to Henry's irritation, Esperanza, a neighbor, is certain she can see the face of Jesus in the stain. Soon after people start flocking in and believing that this stain is the miracle they have all been looking for. But why is it Henry wont believe?

I thought this movie was fantastic! I thought all the performances were spot on especially Luke Wilson, who has had great roles (Old School) and roles I would like to forget (Idiocracy). He played a character I had never seen him play, a down and out person in need of hope..... and he nailed it. The ending of this movie was the closest I had came to shedding a tear in a long time. Henry Poole has found his way into my collection. I say this movie is highly recomended!

DAKOTA FANNING IN TWILIGHT SEQUEL?

Yesterday Dakota Fanning confirmed that she is "in talks" with playing Jane in the Twilight sequel New Moon. "It's definitely possible. I really hope it works out," Fanning told Hitfix.com while promoting her latest flick Push. "It would be a really fantastic experience I'm sure." The director Chris Weitz's first choice for the role was Fanning and even cast her without an audition.

I would LOVE to see Dakota Fanning play Jane! I think she looks exactly how Stephanie Meyer wrote in the book describing her as in a casting notice as a petite blonde with a "Botticelli angel-like face…[and] crimson irises. Sounds like a perfect match to me.

Tuesday New Releases:

RockanRolla- Planning on renting. Will write a review after I watch it.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona- Although this movie does not interest me AT ALL..... My girlfreind wants to see it. So it will be a rent.

The Rocker- Again another movie I heard was really bad, but I love Dwight so.....

The Bourne Trilogy (Blu-Ray)- The is a for sure buy! Nothing like watching Jason Bourne in stunning 1080p!

DARK KNIGHT SEQUEL IN 2011??

Thats what producer Michael Ulsan, producer of "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" told a newspaper yesterday.

My thoughts? We shall see. I mean the studio (which hasnt had a VERY good comic movie in awhile) is of course pushing to have a sequal to the 2nd highest grossing movie ever! But Chris Nolan (director of Begins and Dark Knight) isnt even sure if he wants to do a 3rd one. I wouldnt trust the Batman francise to anyone else!
